Maintenance Mania® Games

The event consists of several skill-based tables games based on common maintenance activities and a race car competition.

Participants build their race cars prior to the event, aiming to have the fastest and most creative car built out of maintenance supplies.

All games are timed to determine the fastest competitor in each game and overall. To view the competitor training videos click on the link for each game below.

Awards & Prizes

Awards are determined by each affiliate for their event.  Most affiliates provide awards to the three fastest competitors in each of the seven events.

Maintenance technicians are recognized for their speed and skills by their NAA affiliates with certificates, trophies or prizes. Each local event is organized individually by the affiliates with support from their vendor members so the form of recognition offered may vary but the following categories are usually awarded:

  • First, Second and Third Place for the overall event
  • First Place for each of the individual games
  • Best Use of Maintenance Supplies in a Race Car
  • People’s Choice Race Car

Participants must compete in all seven games to win the overall event and to qualify for the National Championship.

How to Compete

Nearly 20,000 maintenance technicians have signed up to compete in Maintenance Mania® since the program’s introduction. Participants must be members or employed by a member company in order to qualify for the National Championship.

If you are interested in competing, please check the Event Calendar or contact your local affiliate.

Participants can only compete in one Maintenance Mania® event each year.

National Championship

The Maintenance Mania® National Championship decides who will be the Fastest Maintenance Technician in the Country. Over 700 spectators crowded the arena on the floor of the NAA Apartmentalize Conference to watch the best technicians compete for the Championship Cup, a Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT) scholarship*, and a pot of more than $20,000 in cash and prizes.

Each year, 20 finalists are selected to receive free airfare, hotel accommodations, and registration to the Apartmentalize. The participant with the fastest combined time in each of the 10 NAA regions qualifies as a Regional Finalist. The rookies with the 10 fastest times will earn the remaining 10 spots in the National Championship, regardless of region.

Note: you must be a member in good standing with an affiliated association or a direct member of NAA and be employed full-time as a maintenance technician at a member community to be eligible to compete at the Maintenance Mania National Championship.
