In collaboration with its affiliate partners, the National Apartment Association (NAA) continues its pioneering national roadshow with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) focused on the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program. During these industry roundtables in seven cities, rental housing industry leaders meet with HUD and local officials, tour member communities and explore ways to meaningfully improve the housing provider and resident experiences with the program.
During the November 27, 2024, stop hosted by the Massachusetts Apartment Association (MAA), Steve Lucas, Chief of Staff for HUD’s Office of Public and Indian Housing, remarked that “the quality of housing we’ve seen in Boston, combined with the support for individuals and families served through the Housing Choice Voucher program by the Boston Housing Authority, demonstrates the promise of the voucher program in the hands of truly committed partners.”
Alongside Mr. Lucas, the Boston Roundtable discussion benefitted from insights by Adrienne Maley, EVP of MAA, Greg Vasil, Greater Boston Real Estate Board CEO, Deputy Assistant Secretary Danielle Bastarache of HUD’s Office of Public Housing and Voucher Programs, Boston Housing Authority CEO Kenzie Bok, Peabody Companies CEO Melissa Fish-Crane and MAA President Cecelia Bolognia.
On December 3, 2024, Bay Area Apartment Association leadership had earnest conversations with local public housing agency executives about administrative burdens and discussed strategies to improve housing provider participation in the HCV Program with Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of HUD’s Office of Public and Indian Housing, Richard Monocchio.
In line with our strong support for the Choice in Affordable Housing Act, NAA continues its advocacy with federal lawmakers and regulators to encourage adoption of meaningful improvements to the Section 8 HCV program and incentivize greater housing provider participation in the program. NAA is thrilled to continue this work with our affiliate partners and HUD to offer these roundtables to industry leaders. We will continue this important work with incoming administration.
