Summer is the Time for HAP!
As summer winds down, the 2026 legislative sessions are quickly approaching. That makes these last few days of summer the perfect time to apply for NAA’s HAP grant.
The purpose of NAA’s Housing Affordability Program (HAP) is to provide advocacy support and resources to NAA affiliates to address policies that negatively impact the rental housing industry. Specifically, the HAP is intended to help the industry respond to legislative, regulatory and ballot initiatives that inhibit a housing provider’s ability to create, operate and maintain housing opportunities for their residents.
Additionally, projects supported by HAP become part of an information repository for the use and benefit of the entire NAA affiliate network. The resulting knowledge and experience gained by successive efforts serve as a model for affiliate planning, budgeting and execution of similarly situated advocacy efforts.
Take the knowledge gained last session and apply for a grant now so your affiliate will be prepared to defend against any issues that may be brought up in the next legislative session. If issues do not arise, and funds are not needed, grants awarded will be placed back into the general HAP fund to award new applications without prejudice to the original applicant.
HAP applications are accepted year-round in accordance with the posted schedule and are dependent on the availability of funding. Here's more information on the updated application.

NAAPAC Update
As of August 28, 2025, NAAPAC has raised about $725,000 and distributed $639,000 to industry-supporting legislators. Thirty-four affiliates have met their "Fund Our Future" goals, with others close behind. Check your affiliate's status here. For details, contact Rob Johnson.
