Untangling Federal Agency Directives: Navigating 2026 Housing Enforcement

Why it’s important: Despite recent deregulation efforts and rescission of guidance documents, the core requirements of the Fair Housing Act remain unchanged. Additionally, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) continues to audit HUD programs independently of policy changes for fraud, waste, abuse and costs wherever federal funds are used. With HUD now requiring mandatory citizenship and immigration status verification for HUD-funded housing, strict adherence to federal eligibility rules is the safest approach.
