Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom
June 19 is Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. On this day in 1865, enslaved people in Texas finally learned that they had been freed - over 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
This historic day marks a significant milestone in the journey towards racial equality and justice in America. Here are the top 3 ways you can honor and celebrate Juneteenth:
- Learn the History: Educate yourself and others about the origins and significance of Juneteenth to deepen your understanding of this important part of American history.
- Support Black-Owned Businesses: Patronize Black-owned restaurants, shops and other local businesses to show your support.
- Participate in Celebrations: Here’s what is happening in Philly that week including the Juneteenth parade. These celebrations will feature music, food and cultural traditions that commemorate the end of slavery.
We encourage all attendees to take some time to reflect on the meaning of Juneteenth and find ways to celebrate this important day.

NAA's Excellence Awards, or Excels, recognize excellence and leadership in the rental housing industry. Excels celebrate communities, industry professionals and affiliated apartment associations who make unique contributions to the industry. For the winners, receiving an Excels award represents milestones and outstanding achievement.
This year’s awards ceremony will be complimentary for interested conference goers and those ready to cheer on their company, colleagues and other nominees. Attendance will be limited to the first 400 people who arrive.
