Congressional Site Visit

Site Visits with Elected Officials

Members of Congress specialize in a few areas of policy. Unless educated in a policy area they may not fully understand the problems facing a particular industry. That is why site visits are an important part of the education process for lawmakers. During these uncertain times, NAA staff will help members facilitate virtual site visits to show their properties and explain the operational issues associated with current policies.

Research conducted by the Congressional Management Foundation shows that members of Congress consider site visits with facilities in their district to be one of the most valuable ways to understand their constituents’ views. Both in-person and virtual site visits can impact a legislator’s view on a particular issue, and with the seriousness of the policies facing the multifamily housing industry it is essential that we educate elected officials on the repercussions of these policies.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, NAA staff encourages members to utilize whichever form of site visit they are most comfortable with. Legislative offices will likely have their own policy and procedure when it comes to site visits during these uncertain times, and members should be ready to accommodate their elected official’s preference if they only want to attend a virtual site visit.

The Site Visit Signup page will be used to collect the information of members who are willing to participate in this program. NAA staff will reach out to those members to finalize logistics for the site visits. NAA encourages members to host their elected officials for site visits to help lawmakers understand what our members face day-to-day and to help educate them on our priority issues.
