Digested from "School building redeveloped as senior housing"
Real Estate Weekly (4/24/15)
A new housing development for seniors in Albany, New York, has historic roots; it was home to the Philip Livingston Magnet Academy from 1932 to 2009. An architectural gem, the former junior high and middle school has been converted into a 103-unit senior living community by WinnDevelopment.
The community focuses on providing affordable housing for area seniors. The studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments are intended for residents earning between 50 to 90 percent of Albany's median income.
The 230,000-square-foot community also features amenities such as a community kitchen, fitness center, library and computer center, laundry rooms and wellness center. The school's original common areas, such as the auditorium and library, have been redesigned for meetings, special events and creative activities.
