The 2023 National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) Authoritative Rankings are out with little change surrounding the top 10 largest apartment managers.
Greystar Real Estate Partners remained the No. 1 manager based on units managed: nearly 727,000 compared to just shy of 700,000 in 2022. Lincoln Property Company stayed at two, but Asset Living and Cushman & Wakefield flipped spots at three and four. RPM Living and Apartment Management Consultants also switch spots at six and seven. FPI Management (No. 5), BH at No. 8 and WinnCompanies at No. 9 remained in the same position, and Avenue5 Residential jumped from 12 to 10.
Greystar was the second largest apartment owner with roughly 99,000 units owned, up from 80,000 in 2022. MAA saw a slight slip in units owned but ranked as the largest owner for 2023. Morgan Properties stayed at three as did AvalonBay Communities at four. Also staying in the top 10 this year were Equity Residential, Nuveen Real Estate and The Related Companies, among others.
