A new, 32-story Brooklyn apartment community is laying claim to the title of tallest modular building in the world.
The 363-unit apartment community, named 461 Dean and part of the 6,430-unit Pacific Park development, was constructed using prefabricated, modular parts on a steel frame.
Pacific Park is a mix of condos, apartments and affordable housing. Half of 461 Dean’s units are market-rate, and the other half are income-restricted.
Pacific Park developer Forest City Ratner initially planned to use modular construction for all 15 Pacific Park buildings. However, the developer recently sold off its modular construction business and plans to use traditional construction methods to complete the remaining buildings at Pacific Park.
Construction of 461 Dean was often delayed and took four years to complete.
