- Legal Update: Briana Anderson, Paralegal, gave us the latest in legal news, highlighting important cases to be aware of.
- Federal Legislative Update: Maria Spencer, Director of Federal Legislative Affairs, shared an update on the “Big Three” federal priorities and discussed hearings and legislation of interest.
- Federal Regulatory Update: Nicole Upano, AVP of Housing Policy and Regulatory Affairs, gave updates on federal regulatory actions affecting the industry, such as:
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s continued efforts to regulate lead exposure.
- Resources regarding the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)’s response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
- The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) continues to consider what requirements should be applied to Fannie or Freddie-backed housing.
- The Government Accountability Office (GOA)’s conversation regarding gas stoves.
- State & Local Update: Joe Riter, Senior Manager of Public Policy, provided national updates on rent control and important ballot measures to watch out for. He also gave updates on Source of Income (SOI) legislation, including North Carolina HB 556, which creates statewide SOI preemption.
- NMHC Update: Paula Cino, NMHC’s Vice President for Construction, Development, Land Use and Counsel, gave updates on The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) lead dust standards. She highlighted potential challenges and impacts on housing providers.
