Karen Hollinger, Senior Vice President of Strategy, AvalonBay

Karen Hollinger is Senior Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and is responsible for leading large strategic corporate initiatives. She also is point on innovation initiatives and venture-capital investment. Prior to this position, Hollinger has led several functions and departments at AvalonBay in technology, operations, and human resources. Prior to AvalonBay, Hollinger was a Senior Manager at KPMG, with a partnership focused on accounting systems and IT strategy with clients in the US and in developing countries, and built KPMG’s technology consulting practice in Beijing, China.

Hollinger received a degree in Finance from William & Mary, with highest honors. As part of her involvement in real estate, she has served as the Chair for both NMHC’s Innovation Committee and their Systems Technology & Management Committee, is part of the ULI innovation committee, and has spoken at many conferences on matters related to technology or proptech in the US and abroad.

Jake Blaine, Co-founder, PearlX

Jake Blaine is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of PearlX Infrastructure. PearlX is working to digitally connect global infrastructure assets through the development, ownership, and operation of Virtual Power Plants. Prior to PearlX, Blaine worked at Stem, EnerNOC and Bloomberg. He holds a B.A. from Trinity College in Hartford, CT and currently resides in Marin County, CA with his wife and family.

Lucas Davis, Professor, UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business

Lucas Davis is the Jeffrey A. Jacobs Distinguished Professor at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. A member of UC Berkeley’s faculty since 2009, he teaches courses in data analytics, energy and environmental markets. Davis serves as Faculty Affiliate at the Energy Institute at Haas, co-editor of the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, and Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research.

Bob Pinnegar, President and Chief Executive Officer, National Apartment Association

Robert Pinnegar, CAE, is the President & CEO of the National Apartment Association (NAA), the leading voice and premier resource for the rental housing industry.

As President and CEO, Pinnegar leads a large network of industry professionals, researchers and local affiliates, leading advocacy and public policy efforts, building strategic partnerships and overseeing the development of innovative resources and educational programs. He has over 20 years of experience in the apartment industry, with a background in public policy, and is committed to advancing the industry through technology, legislation and professional standards.

Pinnegar joined NAA as COO in 2011 from the NAA-affiliated San Diego County Apartment Association (SDCAA) where he served as the Executive Director, and prior to that, SDCAA’s lobbyist.

Pinnegar began his professional career on the staff of the then-Rep. Bill Lowery (R-Calif.-41) from San Diego, later transitioning to local staff and campaign positions. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Arts and Sciences and Public Administration from San Diego University. He is an active member of ASAE and holds its Certified Association Executive designation.

Julia Hamm, President & Chief Executive Officer, SEPA

Julia Hamm has served as SEPA’s President & CEO since 2004, providing leadership and strategic direction for the organization.  She is responsible for guiding and overseeing all of SEPA’s research, education, and collaboration activities for its 1,100 member companies and the broader energy industry.

Hamm is a visionary non-profit leader at the center of the transformation underway in the electric power sector to a clean and modern energy future.  For the past 20 years she has been advising and collaborating with utilities, solution providers and government agencies on business models, grid modernization, and clean energy policies, strategies and programs.

Hamm has led SEPA through significant expansion in recent years, including rebranding from the Solar Electric Power Association to the Smart Electric Power Alliance, and merging with both the Association for Demand Response and Smart Grid (ADS) and Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP).  Prior to joining SEPA, Hamm worked for ICF International where she supported EPA’s implementation of the ENERGY STAR program. Aa graduate of Cornell University, Hamm walks the talk, driving an EV and living in a PV-powered home in Northern Virginia with her husband, two children, and dog.
