In just a week nearly 1000 NAA and Affiliate members will come to Washington, DC for Advocate, NAA’s annual legislative advocacy conference. As part of some of the changes to Advocate in 2024, we invite all interested parties to view our recently concluded webinar.

NAAPAC Update: Spring Has Come Early

NAAPAC is off to a hot start in this election year, having raised over $230,000 by March 4, 2024, putting us on the pace to finally hit the $1.2 million goal. What is more, NAAPAC has already made over $550,000 in contributions to candidates and committees this year, strategically investing in key races and allies long before primary elections start in earnest.

HAP-penings

These Housing Affordability Program (HAP) projects are currently in progress:

  • Illinois - Chicagoland Apartment Association – CAA is fighting rent control bills in the state legislature and is expecting votes by April 2024. Watch the CAA’s campaign video here.
  • Michigan - Property Management Association of Michigan – PMAM and Michigan’s 4 local affialites are fighting against a slew of bills in the state legislature – Rent control, source of income, and right to renew. Votes are expected in late spring 2024.
  • Connecticut - Connecticut Apartment Association – State Legislature – CTAA is battling bills on rent control, Just Cause Eviction and “Lapse of Time” (i.e., non-renewal). The bills are currently in committee and approaching votes in the CT House. Finaly votes are expected before the Connecticut legislature adjourns in May 2024.
  • California - East Bay Rental Housing Association – EBRHA is fighting against a TOPA (Tenant Opportunity to Purchase) bill before Oakland City Council, which is expected to vote in Spring 2024.
  • Massachusetts - Greater Boston Real Estate Board – Boston City Council – Transfer Tax. Vote date TBD.
  • Maryland - Apartment and Office Building Association of Metropolitan Washington – AOBA is going to fight an attempt before Prince George’s County Council to make a temporary rent cap permanent before its expiration in April 2024.
