On May 30, 2023, the National Apartment Association (NAA) and the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) submitted a joint comment letter in response to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)’s request for information, which was released on February 28, 2023 as part of the White House Blue Print for a Renters Bill of Rights.

In addition to the joint comment letter, NAA included a supplementary filing providing the agencies with screening stories that NAA believes best represents the value that resident screening practices provide to housing providers. The stories supplement was produced with feedback from NAA’s members and affiliate partners across the country, helping provide critical insight into the operations process.

In support of the joint comment letter, NAA also issued a traditional call to action. In just one week, the effort garnered 972 responses submitted by members and affiliate partners - representing one-third of all comments submitted to the agencies.

The National Apartment Association (NAA) has been ramping up its regulatory engagement in response to the White House Blueprint for a Renters Bill of Rights by supporting and amplifying the rental housing industry’s voice throughout the process. The work continues as NAA takes note of comments submitted from the opposing view and prepares for further administrative action by these agencies that may potentially develop in the future.
