NAA/NMHC and NAA affiliated associations have generated major news media coverage about apartments’ economic impact from coast to coast. More than 100 newspapers, magazines, television stations and online media have covered the story since the data was released in March.

Nationally, apartments and their residents contributed $1.3 trillion to the economy and supported 12.3 million jobs in 2013, according to the study commissioned by NAA/NMHC.

The joint PR campaign, called “Apartments. We Live Here,” includes the newly updated and enhanced website, www.WeAreApartments.org., which breaks down the data by each state and 40 key metro areas. The site features a unique calculator, the Apartment Community Estimator (ACE), which can determine the economic impact of a given number of new or existing apartments in any one of 40 metro areas or 50 states.

Since the new phase of the campaign launched in March, more than 6,500 visitors have checked out the website and 3,500 of them have viewed the calculator, staying on the site for more than two and a half minutes.

In addition, to reinforce the importance of apartments in meeting America’s housing needs, NAA/NMHC launched a new series of print and digital ads that show the diverse range of renters. The ads launched in Politico, which covers government and politics, on March 17 during the NAA Capitol Conference and March 18 during NAA’s Lobby Day on Capitol Hill. The ads ran through April and another ad campaign wave is slated for this fall.

These ads and other resources will be made available to affiliates to customize in their markets.
