Apartment List announced Nov. 9 that it has reached an agreement with Facebook to have its listings posted on the Facebook Marketplace.
Apartment List hosts more than 3 million rental units on its platform (9 percent of the entire rental market, the company says) and reaches more than 5 million renters in more than 40 cities every month.
“Marketplace’s global search volume has already increased [three-fold] this year, so by combining forces we are thrilled to give our property listings even more reach and visibility,” Apartment List COO and Co-Founder Chris Erickson writes on his Facebook page.
Facebook also announced Nov. 9 that it reached the agreement with Zumper to list single-family rentals on its Marketplace page.
Facebook Product Manager Bowen Pan says in a press release, “Marketplace is a popular place for people to look for a home to rent. Now that we’re adding listings from Apartment List and Zumper, people can search even more options in the United States to find a place to call home. [By listing] housing rentals, we’re partnering with businesses to bring more ease and convenience for consumers.”
Erickson adds that “with more people choosing to rent rather than purchase a home, it’s no surprise that Facebook is seeing high demand for the Rentals category on Marketplace. Being on Facebook’s mobile-first platform is also the right move for our renters, because 70 percent of Apartment List users are already searching for the next apartment on their phone.”
The rollout will feature filters for location, price, amount of bedrooms and bathrooms, type of rental, pet friendliness, and square footage, reports MacRumors. Owners will be able to add 360-degree photos to each listing, giving prospective residents a better view of the inside of each apartment.
Previously, house and apartment listings on Marketplace were exclusive to those posted manually by Facebook users.
