Newmark is pleased to announce that Scott Bales has joined the firm as Vice Chairman, partnering with Newmark’s established multifamily team in Northern California to grow market share throughout the West. Bales will be based in the San Francisco office and brings 30-plus years of experience in institutional real estate investment of multifamily assets, including land sales, debt and equity placement, joint venture for ground up construction, mixed-use entitlement and marketing stabilized assets. Prior to joining Newmark, Bales was a Managing Director of JLL Capital Markets having joined as part of the HFF acquisition.

Marcus & Millichap, Inc. announced it has expanded the Board of Directors with the election of Collete English Dixon. She will also serve as a member of the Board’s Nominating & Corporate Governance Committee. Dixon currently serves as Executive Director of the Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate, Roosevelt University in Chicago. Dixon previously held various key officer and management roles at PGIM Real Estate/Prudential Real Estate Investors, which is a business unit of Prudential Financial.

Warren Adair has joined Liberty Military Housing as the Vice President of Information Technology. In this role, he will lead the LMH IT team in designing, developing and implementing organizational information systems and software applications, along with generalized IT support. Adair brings over 25 years of experience, expertise and leadership to this role. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern California and a master’s degree in business administration from California State Polytechnic University. His doctoral research, conducted at the University of Utah, focused on strategic management.

Aaron Cohen, who has nearly two decades of experience in multifamily operations, acquisition and asset management, has joined CGI+ Real Estate Strategies as Chief Operating Officer. Previously, Cohen spent 13 years at JRK Property Holdings, one of the nation’s largest multifamily owners and operators. Rising to Executive Vice President, Cohen was responsible for overseeing the Asset Management and Property Management division for JRK. In his role as COO at CGI+, Cohen will help manage the firm’s growing $1.7 billion multifamily and mixed-used portfolio in Southern California, New York and major markets in the Southeast.

Lindsay Bouchard is the new Director of Strategic Marketing working out of Bonaventure’s Alexandria, Va., headquarters. She brings over 11 years of multifamily real estate marketing expertise to Bonaventure.  In her previous role, she worked with all facets of business to bridge marketing initiatives across operations, construction and finance.

Nelson Cook has joined Bonaventure as the Director of Preconstruction. He brings 30 years of experience in managing preconstruction and estimating, and he will be responsible for Bonaventure’s preconstruction and estimating services team to support the company’s significant development pipeline (2,500+ units per year) of multifamily and senior living projects.

Community Preservation Partners announced the appointment of Belinda Oakes as Chief Financial Officer. Oakes will be responsible for the development, oversight and maintenance of financial policies and accounting systems and functions, ensuring proper financial controls are in place. Prior to joining CPP, Oakes spent more than 19 years at Highridge Costa Companies, in a series of roles, most recently as Vice President of Accounting and Taxation. Earlier in her career, she spent time at Novogradac & Company LLP, Oracle and Arthur Andersen. She volunteers as the Treasurer and CFO of the Hermosa Beach Education Foundation.

Beacon Communities is pleased to announce the promotion of Kristie Tafel Rizzo to Senior Vice President, Property Management. Rizzo has been with Beacon since 2005, most recently in the role of Regional Vice President. She has successfully transitioned nine properties and teams to Beacon throughout Connecticut and New York, completed numerous successful construction and lease-up projects and has built positive relationships with owners, agencies and key stakeholders. In her new role, Rizzo will oversee Beacon’s portfolio in New York and Connecticut.

The Dolben Company, Inc. announced that Courtney Phillips has joined the firm as Vice President of Marketing. Phillips will be responsible for leading the creation and execution of company-wide and property-level marketing initiatives and will be working out of the company’s headquarters in Woburn, Mass. Phillips brings more than 15 years of experience in multifamily residential marketing, specializing in the innovative development and delivery of traditional, digital, and social strategies, demand generation tactics and emerging PropTech products. Prior to joining Dolben, Phillips spent time at the director and vice president levels within the industry.

Sheherazade Thenard   •   Visual Artist   •   American Landmark Apartments   •   Orlando, Fla.

American Landmark Apartments has named Orlando-based figurative painter and illustrator Sheherazade Thenard to its “Artist in Residence” program. The program, now in its second year, provides no-cost housing and studio space for up to one year for select visual artists. In return, grant recipients are charged with implementing onsite art events and educational programs, including classes for children and adults, for residents who live in the same community. The 26-year-old holds a BFA from the University of Central Florida and held a year-long artist residency at the Maitland Art and History Center’s Artist in Action program upon graduation.

WinnCompanies has appointed Terri Benskin, Chief Operating Officer of WinnResidential, to serve on the company’s governance body. Benskin has served as COO of the residential property management company since April 2020 following 18 months as its Executive Vice President. She is responsible for WinnResidential’s day-to-day operations and financial performance, overseeing 2,000 team members and 600 apartment properties in 16 states and Washington, D.C. Benskin joined WinnCompanies in 2018. A veteran of the United States Naval Reserves, she has 26 years of experience in the multifamily field.

WinnCompanies has announced Doug Jones, Chief Operating Officer of WinnResidential Military Housing Services, to serve on the company’s governance body. Jones has served as COO of the military property management company since February 2021 following five years as its Executive Vice President. He is responsible for the strategic direction, bottom-line fiscal accountability and day-to-day operations at more than 40,000 homes at 17 military installations across the U.S., as well as more than 1,600 employees. Jones joined WinnCompanies in 2012 and has 35 years of experience in the multifamily field.

Chad Christian has been promoted to President of Rainey Property Management. Previously the CAO, he has increased the size of the company by more than 200% in less than one year. In this new role, Christian will serve as the Chief Officer over building the company's departmental and organizational platform as well as the liaison between the asset management and property management teams. He will have direct oversight of the company’s strategic initiatives ensuring that the development and growth of Rainey is successful.
