How small can a micro-apartment get? A new apartment community in Seattle’s University District neighborhood might be testing the limits. A 130-square-foot unit in the building is renting for $750 per month.
The unit has a toilet and shower that initially were not enclosed, but the property manager has said a sliding door or curtain will be added. Residents share a kitchen.
The 5,640-square-foot building, which was built this year after a single-family home on the property was torn down, has 23 units, according to the plans the developer filed with the county. Some units are as “large” as 200 square feet and rent for $1,000 per month.
While the $750 monthly rent is low for an apartment in the area, the price per square foot is not. This micro-unit prices out to $5.77 per square foot, compared with $2.60 per square foot for the average studio in the neighborhood.
Utilities are included in the monthly rent.
