The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecasts a higher-than-typical hurricane season in the Atlantic basin this year. NOAA expects up to 25 named storms with winds of at least 39 miles per hour in 2024 with as many as 13 becoming hurricanes with winds of at least 74 miles per hour.

Meanwhile, the April 2024 Tornadoes Report from NOAA states this was the second-busiest month of April on record, with 384 preliminary tornado reports. That's more than twice the average April from 1991-2020 of about 182 tornadoes.
