As people are continuously confronted with the emotional complications of substance use disorder, it has become paramount to develop compassionate strategies based on scientific knowledge. Join the National Council for Mental Wellbeing’s Substance Use Strategy Lead, Phil Rutherford, as we learn how to differentiate between acute and chronic conditions, identify the characteristics of SUD, pinpoint basic, affected scientific components of SUD like dopamine and serotonin and outline available referral sources and other support/treatment options for those in need.

Phil’s professional skillset comprises organizational development, systems implementation, financial/risk oversight and strategic planning. His change management abilities helped him oversee multiple iterations of organizational transformation and process improvement initiatives.  He holds a B.A. in Substance Abuse/ Addition Counseling from Argosy University Twin Cities.
