What is ANAB Accreditation?

CAMT Accreditation by the ANSI National Accreditation Board

In 2010, NAAEI staff announced that its Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT) program has been accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), a private non-profit organization that administers and coordinates the U.S. voluntary standardization and conformity assessment system.

Why Is Accreditation from the ANSI National Accreditation Board Important?

ANAB accreditation means that a neutral, third-party attests that the Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians meets the rigorous standards they have set for organizations that issue education and training certificates to U.S. workers and that the CAMT program promotes better educated and qualified apartment maintenance technicians.

You can market CAMT as a high-quality program that achieved ANAB accreditation. This message is appropriate when marketing to both maintenance professionals interested in CAMT and to decision makers who will send their maintenance employees to attend CAMT training. ANAB assessors reviewed the following aspects of CAMT before accrediting the program:

  • Maintenance Skill Standards
  • CAMT Curriculum
  • CAMT Comprehensive Exam
  • CAMT administrative procedures
  • Advanced Instructor Training and CAMT instructors

In addition, ANAB accreditation may be helpful if your local officials decide to require that apartment maintenance professionals must be licensed. You should share ANAB accredited CAMT with your local officials and request that they consider making the CAMT curriculum and CAMT exam the prerequisite for licensure.

Becoming ANAB-accredited is a huge milestone for NAAEI. Along with this honor comes a responsibility to adhere to the ANAB standard, as it applies to the CAMT program. Not only must we comply on the national level, but it is also imperative that NAAEI affiliates comply with the standard guidelines.

Because of this, NAAEI staff worked tirelessly to conform to the ANAB standard and was required to make several language changes and some changes regarding renewals. We ask that you become familiar with these changes moving forward with your education programming, beginning immediately.

Please refrain from using the old CAMT logo. NAA affiliates and current CAMTs should be using the logo that appears on the NAA Web site and contains the words, "Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians".

ANAB also has outlined its logo usage. It is very important that you consult the ANAB logo usage guidelines before using the ANAB logo. View the ANAB guidelines.

Failure to comply with the ANAB standard for CAMT and their logo usage may result in revocation of CAMT accreditation.

If you have questions regarding the ANAB standard as it applies to your organization offering CAMT, please contact NAAEI's Director of Credentialing & Accreditation, Amy Allen.
