NAA has stepped up to partner in this critical effort. Learn more.

In an effort to resettle nearly 70,000 Afghan refugees who aided the United States over the past two decades, the Biden Administration has launched Operation Allies Welcome. The National Apartment Association (NAA) has stepped up to help locate and secure housing for these critical allies.

Housing providers with available units across the country are encouraged to participate. There are three core requests of interested housing providers:

  • The unit is available immediately for a maximum monthly rent of $2000
  • Up to a one-year lease is available
  • Normal screening requirement like credit checks, background checks, and security deposits are waived for refugees

The federal government has allocated $100 billion specifically for the cost of housing these refugees. In addition, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Bureau of Investigation, National Counterterrorism Center and other federal agencies are conducting comprehensive background screening checks for each refugee.

A national non-profit organization, Welcome.US, has been charged with executing the initiative. Welcome.US’ efforts will serve as an “exchange” for housing providers to post their available units for non-profits and resettlement agencies to view.

Interested housing providers can learn more by accessing NAA’s Operation Allies Welcome page, contacting their state resettlement agency or speaking with the following DHS representative:
